This is Kenneth Blaisedell. For the last 21 years he's run an amazing little gem of a store in downtown White River Junction. Lampscapes is a storefront off Gates street, just behind the hustle and bustle of S. Main Street. Ken's work is as a painter; he makes his living designing lamps, fabricating and painting lamp shades, and selling them together and separate. Every now and then you can find an oil or acrylic painting for sale as well.
Ken has a classical heart and an eye for design detail. All of his lampshades are made from a durable paper which he either oils or paints on directly. Some of his designs are fun and modern - for example his "Jelly Bean" patterns - and others are much more traditional - majestic irises, country scenes, or soft palettes of washed color.
Nevertheless his retail shop and studio are a joy to behold. I don't want to spoil the experience of a first time visit by showing off his product here, but you are encouraged to visit TUE-SAT, 10-5PM.
Side note, there's a TON happening in White River Junction - incredible energy for a town of less than 3,000. And it's changing right outside Ken's workshop door! From food to theater to the arts - its worth a well planned day and an overnight stay at the idiosyncratic Coolidge Hotel! Incredible assets include the Center for Cartoon Studies, Northern Stage, the Tip Top Building, Tucker Box, Vermont Salvage, Fatty's Barbecue, and the Engine Room - and so much more!
